The Lee University baseball team has been playing home games at its new stadium since mid-February, but the official dedication of the two-level facility at 22-year-old Olympic Field is set for Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Flames will face 12th-ranked Delta State in a Gulf South Conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. The stadium is on property owned by the Bradley County school system behind Ocoee Middle School, and the arrangement for Lee’s continued use of it was renewed in February. Dr. Linda Cash, Bradley County director of schools, will take part in Saturday’s ceremony along with Lee board chairman Dennis Livingston, Lee president Dr. Paul Conn and other dignitaries. “We are thrilled with this new facility,” Conn said in a Lee release. “This is a wonderful partnership with Bradley County Schools which has flourished for over 20 years, and it is a win-win for both of us.” Chair-back seating for 400 spectators is included in the stadium’s approximately 9,400 square feet. The dedication ceremony will be part of the annual Lee Day Weekend.

Track & Field

» After being represented in meets in three states last weekend, Lee took five of the six GSC weekly honors for track and field. The Lady Flames’ Chloe Flora was the women’s track performer of the week and Kayla Williams was the freshman of the week, while the Flames’ Justin Brooks was the men’s track performer, Gari Garmendia the field performer and Jonah Mayes the honored freshman. Brooks was at the Pepsi Florida Relays and bettered his nation’s-best 400-meter time to 47.02 seconds, and Garmendia at the Emory Classic set a Lee record with a 15.87-meter shot put – best in the GSC by nearly a meter so far this season. Also at the Emory meet, Mayes was second in the high jump and Williams set the GSC season standard in the women’s 100 and helped set a Lady Flames record in the 4×100 relay. Flora set a Lee record in the 1500 at the Raleigh Relays. Amber Littlejohn in the 400 and Jordan Allison in the 400 hurdles also set Lady Flames records last weekend.

Softball

» Lindsey Dunn’s no-hitter in a five-inning 11-0 win highlighted Bryan College’s Appalachian Athletic Conference softball sweep Wednesday at Bluefield College. The Lady Lions (14-24, 11-13) won 14-6 in the first game with an eight-run 10th inning, after each team scored three in the ninth. Heidi Smith and Hannah O’Shields each was 4-for-6 with four and three runs batted in for Bryan in that game, when Kayla Hayes homered and drove in three and Sydney Olander was 3-for-5 and scored three. Austyn Durham also had three hits, with two RBIs and two runs. Bryan had 19 and 13 hits in the two games, while Bluefield had 15 and then zero. Hayes was 2-for-3 with another homer and four RBIs in game two; Dunn was 3-for-4 and scored twice, Sydney West was 2-for-2 and Maryah Sober 2-for-3 with two runs each, and Durham had two RBIs.

Baseball

» Bryan improved its season baseball record to 23-11 with an 8-5 win Wednesday at Lindsey Wilson. The Lions, ranked 24th in the NAIA, scored six runs in the third inning with a grand slam by Jesus Astudillo. Jacob Justice was 2-for-4 and scored three runs, Destine Udombon also was 2-for-4 and David Scoggins was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Lacrosse

» Rachel Duda’s goal with 2:20 left to play lifted Lee to a 13-12 GSC women’s lacrosse win Wednesday at Montevallo, and that avenged an earlier one-goal margin the other way. Duda joined Emma Hill and Becca Broadwick with three goals apiece for the Lady Flames (4-8, 1-4), and Kaylyn Dillon and Rachel Giles added two each. Shayna Ryan had two assists.
