Courter: Things I wish my kids would ask me

Expecting fairness in workplace a trap

Editor’s note: Barry Courter has a 26-year-old son who is a college graduate and a 21-year-old daughter who is a college senior. Each week he poses a question he wishes they would ask.

Q: Dad, should I expect to be treated the same as everyone else at work?

A: Expect? No. Life is not fair, but more importantly, not all situations are the same and, most likely, you will not have all the “facts.” You should be treated fairly and rules should apply evenly to everyone, but they won’t. Worry about yourself, and most things take care of themselves.
