* Nineteen days after a double-overtime defeat in a game that topped 200 points, the Sewanee men’s basketball team returned to competition Sunday in the Hampden-Sydney Holiday Classic in Virginia and lost 73-69 in overtime to Ferrum. Adrian Thomas led Sewanee (7-4) with 22 points and 11 rebounds, and he also made a 3-pointer to force overtime after the Tigers led 38-25 at halftime, but Ferrum (5-5) settled in during the extra period and made its late free throws to seal the victory. Sean McDonough came off the bench to score 12 points – all on 3-pointers – in 20 minutes, Jordan Warlick chipped in 10 points and Ryan Starr had 11 assists for Sewanee, which faces the tournament host Monday afternoon at 2. Ferrum’s James Smith Jr. did not start but led all scorers, getting 26 points in 32 minutes.
