If there is any university in the United States that is seen as a magnet for some of the brightest students and faculty, it is surely Harvard.
But highly regarded Harvard recently demonstrated a truth that most Americans understand: A commanding intellect doesn’t necessarily lead to good judgment.
Harvard’s student health plan will cover full “gender reassignment surgery” for students starting next August — following the questionable lead of the also respected University of Pennsylvania.
If you attended college, you may recall that many campuses had some sort of basic medical care for students who caught a cold or had other relatively minor ailments.
But it would have been unusual, if not unheard of, for a bare-bones student health plan to cover major elective surgery — let alone “gender reassignment surgery.”
With tuition, fees, room and board at Harvard already costing more than $50,000 per year, we’d think students there might balk at having to help fund that procedure.
But apparently the powers that be at Harvard think it’s “smart” to provide such services.
Do you agree?
