Irish-themed food and music will set the mood for Shamrock City, a St. Patrick’s celebration scheduled this weekend at Rock City on Lookout Mountain.
The Molly Maguires, Chattanooga Pipe Band, Celtic Plains, Casey Phillips & Butch Ross and Olta will entertain, and Jeff Sandy will give Irish jig lessons.
Visitors can sample green fudge, green tea latte and cappuccino, and specialty beer on tap from Big River Brewery.
The third annual event, which has been selected as a Top 20 event for March by the Southeast Tourism Society, also will feature a green waterfall, said Meagan Jolley, Rock City public relations manager.
New for kids this year is an adventure map that has young visitors “collect stickers along their journey to the Pot of Gold Pavilion,” Jolley said. Youngsters who collect seven stickers will receive a prize.
Shamrock City is partnering with the Chattanooga district of the Muscular Dystrophy Association for Shamrock City. Participants can purchase a green shamrock for $1 or a gold shamrock for $5 to help support local residents who have muscular dystrophy, a group of disorders that involve muscle weakness or loss of muscle tissue.
“Our partnership with MDA is new this year,” Jolley said. “Rock City Gardens believes strongly in community partnerships and is incorporating that in every event we have now. It was a perfect fit with the shamrocks they already use in their fundraisers to promote their cause at our event.”
