Bennett cartoons inspire thought
Clay Bennett is not just a cartoonist trying to arouse a chuckle or a sneer. He is an editorial cartoonist, whose main task is to create images “that reflect bogus ideas,” as Dwayne Booth, one of his peers, puts it. Sometimes he confirms our judgments. At other times, he challenges our uncritical assumptions.
We might react defensively with a “how dare he” response. Or we could think things over, reconsider, and take advantage of the opportunities he gives us to grow.
