Hamilton County Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a release from Hamilton County Schools.

Johnson is currently experiencing mild symptoms and “is in good spirits.” He is now in isolation and will continue to lead the district remotely, the release states.

The school system’s COVID-19 tracker dashboard states there are currently 147 active student cases and 74 active employee cases with 896 across the district awaiting test results or described as “close contacts.”

There have been at least 896 student cases and 236 employee cases since school started in August, as of Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Hamilton County Schools switched to Phase 1 of its coronavirus plan, which means remote learning from home, on Monday due to surging COVID-19 cases in the area. Friday will be the final day of online learning in 2020 before winter break.
