Convention site deals with cut

The Carter Street Corp., which oversees the Chattanooga Convention Center, approved its revised fiscal year 2011 budget in a Tuesday meeting.

The revised budget was a result of an $88,000 cut in city and county funding, leaving the city and county funding at $136,000. Executive Director Mike Shuford said compared to last year, the Convention Center’s budget is nearly identical, even with the $88,000 cut.

He said operations won’t be hindered, as the savings will come from insurance and utility costs.

The board also discussed financial results for June, in which the Convention Center estimated it had created an $1.3 million in economic impact.
