Attorney awarded for work on Billy Long prosecution

The Justice Department today recognized a local assistant U.S. attorney for his work prosecuting former Hamilton County sheriff Billy Long.

Gary S. Humble was one of 159 honored today when he received the award for Superior Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney at the 27th annual Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys Director’s Awards Ceremony, according to a department release.

“These award recipients have been honored for their services and dedication to our country, as well as to their local communities,” said Attorney General Eric Holder in a department release.

Humble prosecuted Long in 2008 on drug conspiracy, firearms, money laundering and extortion charges, resulting in Long’s removal from office and a 14-year prison sentence.
