CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. — When Chickamauga City Schools’ first SMART Board was plugged into the wall in 2006, teachers and students applauded and celebrated.
That day “it was hoorays and hoorahs when the guy first plugs it in and says ‘Now, it’s yours,’ and you’re able to get started working on it,” said Gordon Lee Middle School teacher Ramey Smith.
“That was just one of those things that you never forget,” she said.
Teachers weren’t working by candlelight before 2006, but a computer connected to a television screen is a far cry from technology in use today, she said.
She said most students walk through the door ready to use modern software and SMART Boards, which are interactive, touch-sensitive, wall-mounted computers about 5 feet wide.
