Thanks to the polar vortex, Chattanooga has seen its share of winter weather this year.
Along with school closings and icy road conditions, the weather has impacted at least one of the roadway construction projects underway in the East Hamilton area.
“The contractor was unable to place final pavement on the Shallowford Road project during the snow, ice and extreme cold,” reported Tennessee Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jennifer Flynn. “If the weather holds, he will be paving throughout the week and hopefully we’ll be out of there very soon.”
Other projects, like those to widen Apison Pike and install an access road at Volkswagen, were not impacted by the weather, she said.
“On the Volkswagen access road project from [Highway 58] to the site of a future supplier park, the contractor has been doing clearing, so cold weather has not affected that work too much,” said Flynn. “The project is slated for completion in September 2014.”
