Chattanooga Lookouts shortstop Nick Gordon was named Monday afternoon the Southern League player of the month for May.

Gordon then went out Monday night and doubled to right field in the second inning to score Levi Michael and help propel Chattanooga to a 4-2 win over Jackson at AT&T Field. The Lookouts improved to 32-25, matching their season high of seven games over .500.

The Lookouts and Generals are scheduled to meet again tonight at 7:15.

In 27 games last month, Gordon had a league-high 109 at-bats and either led or tied for the league lead with 22 runs, 17 extra-base hits, 58 total bases, 11 doubles and three triples. The top prospect in the Minnesota Twins organization also had 32 hits, three home runs, 15 RBIs, 14 walks and two stolen bases.

Gordon’s double Monday put the Lookouts up 4-0, and that was more than enough support for starting pitcher Stephen Gonsalves, who allowed two hits in five scoreless innings while racking up eight strikeouts. John Curtiss collected three strikeouts in earning his 11th save and keeping his earned run average at 0.00 through 18 games.
