Tennessee: Boulder crashes through house, barely misses woman

ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. – Emergency officials say a boulder about the size of a compact car crashed through a Rogersville home, barely missing a woman sleeping in her bedroom.

Rogersville Fire Chief David Jackson said 75-year-old Elizabeth Allred was lucky that the 10-foot-wide boulder didn’t hit her bed straight on, instead crashing nearby and causing her hospital bed to roll across the room. She was at home recovering from a broken hip when the accident occurred Monday morning.

Jackson said the boulder broke loose from a bank above the apartment during recent rains. The Kingsport Times-News reported that Allred told Jackson it felt like a train crashed into her room and was listed in good condition at the hospital on Tuesday.
