CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – An exhibit opening this month at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga will honor some of Tennessee’s folk artists.
The exhibit “Tradition – Tennessee Lives and Legacies” is the result of 25 years of fieldwork by the commission’s director, Dr. Robert Cogswell.
He has chronicled the lives of 25 different folk subjects in a book to be published by the commission, which contracted a Nashville photographer to provide visual images to complement Cogswell’s essays.
The first showing of the exhibit opens at the Hunter Museum on Sept. 26 and will travel throughout the state to selected venues for a three-year period.
