Hamilton County awards contract to renovate downtown building

The Hamilton County Commission today awarded a $4.2 million contract to renovate the Business Development Center at the corner of Cherokee Boulevard and Manufacturers Road.

The large brick building with its distinctive glass-brick front will be renovated with about $1.4 million in county-issued bonds. The rest of the money comes from federal grants, and Construction Consultants will perform the work, officials said.

Also today, the county accepted two Volkswagen Jetta sedans as gifts. Volkswagen gave the county the vehicles, which are valued at $28,000 each, for use by the Hamilton County sheriff as traffic control vehicles.
