Photo by Emily CrismanGuthrie’s shows its support for the Signal Mountain Eagles through the establishment of their own party room, the Eagles’ Nest, at the restaurant in addition to offering free meals to the football team after every home-game victory.
“For me, feeding the football team is about being a part of the community,” said Guthrie’s co-owner Will Garrett. “The kids are just great and have been a large part of our business here.”
Guthrie’s co-owner Grady Williams Jr. said following the Eagles’ home football games the entire restaurant is filled with players, cheerleaders, band members, friends and fans from around 9:30 to 10:30 p.m.
“A fan from an opposing team wanted to see what we were feeding the boys, because they beat the stew out of them,” joked Williams. “It’s a packed house and a wild night, but it’s a lot of fun to see the smiling faces.”
At the restaurant’s recent ribbon-cutting ceremony, members of the football team presented Garrett and Williams with a photo of the team in appreciation of Guthrie’s support throughout the season to be framed and placed on the wall of the Eagles’ Nest along with team jerseys.
“We want to reach out to Signal Mountain High School because we feel it is the center of the community, and we want to invest ourselves in the community in an integral way,” said Garrett.
Although the football team’s last regular season home game was Oct. 15, he said the Eagles basketball, softball and baseball teams are invited to eat at Guthrie’s on the house after home-game wins as well.
“We want to reach out to other teams in the athletic department the same way we did the football team,” said Garrett.
Guthrie’s is at 1235 Taft Highway and can be reached at 886-4466.
