Labor Day weekend always marks a milestone at The Mountain Opry, and Friday, Sept. 4, will be no different, with an expanded lineup of musicians, an extra hour of entertainment and cake to celebrate the weekly event’s 36th anniversary.

Set to perform are Middle Tennessee Grass, pianist Ryan Stinson, Just Country, The Cumberland Band and Mountain Cove Bluegrass.

Start time is at 7 p.m., an hour earlier than the norm, says organizer Ken Holloway. Shows generally last until 11 p.m.

The Mountain Opry has been a Friday night gig for countless bluegrass and old-time country musicians since its 1979 inception. The music rings out each week from the Walden’s Ridge Civic Center, 2501 Fairmount Pike on Signal Mountain.

Admission is free, though donations are welcome. For more information, call 423-886-3252.
