Kevin Costner – yes, that Kevin Costner – and his rock/country band, Modern West, will provide the musical entertainment for Siskin StarNight. The fundraiser for Siskin Children’s Institute, which provides care and services for special-needs children and their families, is scheduled Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Chattanooga Convention Center.
Costner is a singer and guitar player in the band, which has released three albums since forming in 2007. Costner says it was at the strong urging of his wife, Christine, that he decided to pursue his musical passion.
The band’s first album, “Untold Truths,” released in 2008, made it to No. 61 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and produced three singles: “Superman 14,” “Long Hot Night” and “Backyard.”
Costner, of course, is best known as an actor, producer and director. His film credits include “The Untouchables,” “Field of Dreams,” “The Big Chill” and “Bull Durham.” His 1990 film “Dances With Wolves,” which he produced, directed and starred in, won Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director, and Costner was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role. His television roles have included the made-for-TV miniseries “Hatfields & McCoys,” which won him a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award for his role as “Devil” Anse Hatfield.
The black-tie event also includes a cocktail reception and fine dining.
