WE Rock sets Battle of the Mountain

The World Extreme Rock Crawling Championship Series returns to Rhea County, Tenn., this weekend.

For the uninitiated, rock crawling is an extreme motorsport that takes off-road riding to new heights and keeps score.

Battle of the Mountain, part of WE Rock’s Pro-National East Series, will offer two nights of competition that is “sure to bring the toughest rock crawlers on the Eastern Seaboard to the toughest terrain available,” event organizers said on the website. “Drivers will be gunning for the rights to season championships, which means that an ‘all or nothing’ approach must be taken.”

Gates open to spectators at 4 p.m. today and at noon Saturday. Competition begins at 7 each night. Saturday’s finals are expected to last until midnight.

Admission is $10 per day, $20 for a two-day pass for adults; $5 per day for children 8-15.

The venue is at 35 Pitts Gap Road in Graysville, Tenn. To reach the site, organizers suggest following U.S. Highway 27 to Sale Creek and turning west onto Leggett Road. Follow to Pitts Gap Road and turn left. Event site is two more miles on the right.
