Even though the GHSA’s postseason rankings system has changed some of the drama surrounding the last couple of weeks of the 2026 football season, there is still much on the line in Northwest Georgia regions.
Region championships are still important — especially for one area region — as those champions are the only teams guaranteed a top-16 seed and a home game in the first round of the state playoffs. The GHSA’s computer-driven rankings will ultimately determine seeding for all eight brackets in the playoffs.
Region runners-up are not guaranteed to make the 32-team playoff field, much less get a home game.
The rankings change weekly, but few teams are going to make big moves at this point. With two weeks left, here’s where each of the five regions that include area teams stand.
