MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Notre Dame junior John Dorris is among five Chattanooga boys who will be competing today at noon EDT for state tennis championships at Old Fort State Park. At least two of them will win.
Dorris had an easy beginning of the day, earning an injury-default victory over Madison’s Josh Ward but had to hold to defeat Christian Academy of Knoxville’s Jon Allen 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the Class A/AA semifinals. Dorris will face Pearl-Cohn’s Kyle Burton, who defeated East Hamilton’s Nick McCormick 6-2, 6-4, for the championship.
McCormick had earned a first-round victory over Milan’s Clint Bradley, winning 6-0, 6-1.
The other Chattanooga finalists are in Division II-AA, and they come from the same school. Baylor’s Carlos Cuevas and Alex Cooper, the East/Middle Region champions, will be in the doubles final against teammates Michael Goldstein and Aditya Rali, whom they had to defeat to earn that title on May 16.
Cooper and Cuevas won that match 6-1, 6-4.
