The Jackson Generals defeated the Chattanooga Lookouts twice in seven-inning Southern League baseball games Thursday night, 10-6 and 4-0.
Visiting Chattanooga jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning of the first game but gave up a six-run second featuring RBI doubles by Aderlin Rodriguez and Tyler Smith and a two-run two-bagger by Marcus Littlewood. Jackson’s Tyler Bortnick hit a two-run double in the fifth, right after the Lookouts tied the score on Kennys Vargas’ two-run homer. Vargas had a two-run single and scored on a wild pitch in the first inning.
In the second game, the Generals scored two runs in each of the first two innings and cruised through five, then survived a bases-loaded, no-outs top of the sixth with three strikeouts and no Lookouts scoring. Jairo Rodriguez was 2-for-3 for Chattanooga in game two. He singled to lead off the seventh and made it to third with one out, Shannon Wilkerson walking and both advancing on a wild pitch, but a strikeout and a groundout ended that final threat to prevent a shutout.
The Lookouts open a five-game home series against Mobile tonight at 7:15 at AT&T Field. Brett Lee (2-4, 3.79 ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Lookouts, with Braden Shipley (8-8, 3.74) listed for the BayBears.
