When our people need jobs and have them, or have good prospects for finding them, we may be able to handle our varied challenges in life fairly well. But when people really need jobs and can’t find them — as is the case for many millions of Americans these days — there’s real trouble.
We give thanks, therefore, that in Chattanooga, employment opportunities are good, compared with those throughout much of the rest of the country.
Chattanooga has had an increase of 2,900 local jobs in the past year — with more coming! We are welcoming Volkswagen’s plans to hire about 2,000 people locally, and there are several other good local employment prospects of various kinds.
With more people working and earning paychecks, they will generate other positives that will make our local economy successful.
As we rejoice about our good economic outlook, let’s remember how important it is for all of us to do the things that make good jobs. We need to be productive and cooperative to assure that our employers prosper, thereby generating mutual benefits.
