House builders honor Mabee

Dale Mabee, president of the Cornerstone Construction Group, has been named the winner of the 2009 developer of the year award of the Home Builders Association of Southern Tennessee.

Teresa Groves, executive officer for the group, said that Mr. Mabee, who also was builder of the year in 1999, is deserving of the recognition.

“Dale has developed and built some of the area’s premier neighborhoods for over 20 years,” Mrs. Groves said. “His dedication to professionalism in his profession and to the association makes him very deserving of this recognition.”

The group also recognized Tim McClure, president of McClure Construction, as builder of the year for 2009. Mr McClure, a 20-year industry veteran and past president of the Home Builders Association, received the award for building more than 360 custom houses, according to Mrs. Groves.

Tax break program cites figures

Chattanooga’s Renewal Community tax breaks have spurred about $450 million in new building and wages since the program was started in the city eight years ago, an official said Friday.

Maria Noel, who oversees the program for the city’s Enterprise Center, also said the program is expected to help create about 1,600 jobs by 2014.

But she said the program’s reauthorization by Congress is not assured. Under the program, businesses in a zone can apply for commercial revitalization tax deductions and federal tax relief for employing eligible workers and purchasing equipment
