RED CLAY, Tenn. — Red Clay is offering volunteers the opportunity of a brush with history.
Helpers are needed next week to move exhibits and do some painting in the visitors center at Red Clay State Historic Area.
In the tradition of old-fashioned work parties, the staff is asking for volunteers to come grab a brush or roller, paint a wall and enjoy the company of others doing the same, park director Carol Crabtree said.
Volunteers are needed April 13 and 14 to tape off areas next to places to be painted. On April 15, exhibits in the 19th Century Room will be moved for painting. The work will be from 1 to about 8 p.m.
Painting will begin at 8 a.m. April 16 and 17.
Red Clay State Historic Park is in southwestern Bradley County. It is the site of 11 of the last 12 Cherokee Council meetings before the Trail of Tears.
Park hours are 8 a.m. to sunset, but the visitor center closes at 4:30 p.m.
To get there, take Interstate 75 to exit 20 and turn right on the U.S. 64 bypass (APD 40). Continue east to the exit for state Highway 60 (Dalton Pike). Turn south and follow the signs.
