The Orange Grove Center will no longer process city recyclables at its facility in response to a federal mandate, the city and Orange Grove Center announced Tuesday in a joint news release.
Orange Grove employs 150 developmentally disabled adults, 80 of whom work in the recycling center on Dodds Avenue, according to newspaper archives.
The federal mandate affects the settings in which individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities can be served, according to the release.
Orange Grove will continue to operate its five drop-off convenience centers but will cease operations as the city’s materials recovery facility, where materials collected through the city’s curbside recycling program have been processed and sold.
The city will move to a new materials recovery system by July 25, the release said.
