Weekend winners

Iowa point guard Jordan Bohannon. Dude scored 25 points as the Hawkeyes closed their home schedule with a 77-70 win over Northwestern. But it’s the point he did not score that made news. Bohannon intentionally missed a free throw, snapping his streak at 34 in a row so that Chris Sweet kept the school record of most consecutive made free throws. Sweet made 35 straight before he was killed in a car wreck during his junior season with the Hawkeyes in 1993.

Golf in general. Tiger looked like Tiger on Sunday, down to the red shirt. Justin Thomas looked as good as any player in the world. Young stars from all over the planet made moves and tried to get into the mix at the Honda Classic. All in all, golf appears to be in a pretty nice spot. And Thomas is in an incredible group, joining some cat named Tiger and some hot shot named Jordan Spieth as the only players in the last 30 years to have eight or more PGA wins before the age of 25. And how’s this for being clutch in winning time: Sundaywas the Thomas’ 13th consecutive final round at par or better. Dude is a collective 37-under in those 13 final rounds. That will make you some money friends.

Luke List. The Baylor School grad and for Vandy All-American lost in a playoff to Thomas on Sunday, but the path to victory on the PGA Tour is paved with heartaches like this one. More importantly, List got beat and did not beat himself, which is a major accomplishment for any player trying to become more and more comfortable in winning moments on Sunday afternoons. His second shot into the par 5 on the 72nd hole of the tournament was big-boy stuff. And while we all watched and wanted Luke to finish the drill for his first win, getting $712,800 for playing 73 holes of golf is winning the weekend friends. Luke has made $1,457,145 in 11 events this year and is currently 16th in Fed Ex Cup points. Here’s more from TFP all-around ace David Paschall.

Kansas. The Jayhawks clinched the Big 12 regular-season title last weekend. It’s the 14th consecutive season Kansas has hung the banner, setting a men’s college hoops record. Man, that’s a staggering mark of sustained excellence friends.
