The Choo Choo Kids from the Center for Creative Arts will entertain at two events in the coming week.

* Tonight, the ensemble is the headlining act for the Sunset Concert Series in the North River Civic Center, 1009 Executive Drive, Suite 102, behind Northgate Mall. The free show starts at 7 p.m.

Linda Rugina, executive director of the center, said the annual appearance by the Kids is always a huge draw.

“They are popular. We usually get a sold-out crowd with people standing out the door. We’re looking forward to it. I advise people to come early to get a seat,” she said.

The theme of this year’s musical revue is “One Day You’ll Beg for My Autograph.”

Choo Choo Kids director Jason Whitehead said the song-and-dance show will feature songs from “Memphis, “A Chorus Line,” “Sister Act,” “Shrek” and other musicals.

Lindsay Fussell choreographed the show.

* Thursday, patrons at the Center for Creative Arts’ annual fundraiser, Dinner and the Arts, will get a sneak peek of the upcoming production of Disney’s “Tarzan” musical.

Hamilton County’s performing arts magnet school is one of four high schools in the nation to be handpicked by Disney Theatrical Productions to stage the production based on the popular Disney animated film.

In addition to an excerpt from “Tarzan,” guests can also look forward to silent and live auctions, dinner catered by Outback Steakhouse and performances showcasing students in all of the school’s performing arts disciplines.

Principal Debbie Smith said about 100 items ranging from gift certificates to student artwork will be up for bids in the silent auction, beginning at 5:30 p.m. A half-dozen big-ticket items, including Walt Disney World Park Hopper tickets, will be sold in the auction following the catered dinner at 6 p.m. Smith advised patrons who wish to bid on these items to bring dollar bills since bids will be made in $1 to $5 increments.

Tickets are $20 per person for dinner and the show. Call 209-5929 today for space availability. Tickets are $5 at the door for the 7:30 p.m. performance only.
