A trend that has been slowly but steadily growing from its origins in Asia, eyebrow threading has only in recent years made its way into Chattanooga. And in February, a local studio specializing in the practice opened.

iBrow Couture is dedicated to not only eyebrow threading, but the art of temporary henna tattoos.

Owner Genia Church is also the co-owner of Epiphany Salon and Day Spa located on the North Shore, and Color & Blow Dry Bar by Epiphany on Gunbarrel Road. She also teaches with Schwarzkopf, a German-based hair cosmetic company.

Church’s work within multiple platforms of the beauty industry allows her to travel all over the country, which gives her easy access to the latest trends, she said. It was through those travels that she was inspired to open iBrow Couture in Chattanooga.

Although it is a relatively new trend to Chattanooga, Church said threading has the potential to become very popular because of its benefits over waxing.

“With threading it’s not going to be as painful as waxing,” she said. “It lasts longer and it does not remove any skin, so you won’t leave as red as you would normally leave from a waxing appointment.”

She added that the studio also has a makeup artist on staff who is willing to help teach clients how to best shape and fill in their eyebrows. iBrow Couture offers eyebrow extensions that can last up to three weeks, added Church.

She said appointments have been steadily coming in for both threading and henna tattoos. Made using plant based dyes that eventually fade away, the intricate adornments are most often applied to hands. Her studio also offers maternity art and recently created a custom neckline henna tattoo that was designed to give the appearance of a necklace to match the dress worn by the client.

Customers can book appointments for threading or henna tattoos online at ibrowcouture.com, or simply walk in. The studio is located at 2115 Gunbarrel Road, Suite 7, Studio 1.
