– Project: St. Nicholas School.

– Location: 7525 Min Tom Road

– Enrollment: 206 students.

– General contractor: Morgan Construction Co.

– Investment: $3.1 million.

– Project: New chapel, fine arts classroom and five storm shelters were added to the school.

– History: St. Nicholas, an Episcopal elementary school started in 1958, relocated in 1994 from Grace Episcopal Church on Brainerd Road to a former residential treatment facility in East Brainerd, which was converted into classrooms and a gym for preschool through 5th grade classes. The expansion is the biggest since the school relocated to East Brainerd.

– Scope of project: A capital campaign financed the school’s upgrade and new chapel (previously students met in the gym for chapel) and an expanded music and fine arts classroom. After tornadoes hit the region in 2011, the school decided to add storm shelters. “We hope the safety shelters are used only for drills, but we wanted to ensure that our students would be safe no matter what happens,” said Dexter Cantelou, director of development at St. Nicholas.
