For the second year in a row, a Signal Mountain student received first place in the Tennessee Bar Association’s Second Annual YouTube Video Contest — a contest created in 2010 to generate knowledge and interest in the law and the American judicial system among students in Tennessee.

Vivian Hughbanks, a student with the Chattanooga Southeast Tennessee Home Education Association, won first place Tuesday in the high school category. Her three-minute video focused on the importance of freedom of speech as it related to government power and foundation for democracy, according to a news release.

Hughbanks, alongside her school’s mock trial team that sponsored her, will receive a cash prize of $500 and be invited to attend TBA’s annual meeting in Memphis on June 8, the news release said, where her winning video will be shown to state leaders.

Last year, Vivian’s submission “Battle of Athens” — which focused on illegal election activity in McMinn County — also won first place.

Alyssa Neuhoff, a Signal Mountain resident and Walden home school student, won second place in the middle school category. Her video, titled “Above All Liberties: Freedom of Expression,” also focused on free speech but how it relates to emancipation, suffrage and drinking age limits, the news release said.

This year’s contest called for submissions of a three-minute video exploring limits of free communication, the news release said.
