A two-vehicle wreck in Polk County kept Highway 68 closed for about three hours Monday evening, officials said.

The head-on collision caused four injuries, according to Lavonne Collins, a dispatcher based in Ducktown, Tenn. Two people were flown by helicopter to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga and one person was flown to a hospital in Knoxville, she said. The fourth passenger was transported by an ambulance.

“The extent of the injuries is not known at this time,” Ms. Collins said.

One of the cars was traveling southbound on Highway 68 from near Monroe County, and the accident took place about a mile into Polk County. The accident happened at about 5 p.m., Ms. Collins said, and the highway is now “all clear.”

Highway 68 is being used as the detour of the Highway 64 rockslide.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
