Editor’s note: Barry Courter has a 26-year-old son who is a college graduate and a 21-year-old daughter who is a college senior. Each week he poses a question he wishes they would ask.
Q: Dad, what do you think about thank-you notes?
A: First, I wish I was better about writing them. They definitely have their place, especially for someone looking for a job. They should be handwritten on nice paper (personalized stationary, even better) and mailed the old-fashioned way. A note of thanks sent immediately after an interview can go a long way in helping you stand out.
