Chattanooga: Sewer rates going up

City officials said today the average sewer user in the city would pay about 65 cents more by this time next year.

Jerry Stewart, the city’s director of waste resources, said Tuesday he asked for a 5.5 percent increase over the next year. Rates will go up 2.75 percent in October and 2.75 percent in April 2011, he said.

The City Council passed the measure last week as part of its 2010-2011 budget.

The increase translates to a 70 cent increase on the average use of 5,000 gallons a month in October and a 65 cent increase in April, city records show.
