Five Bears win titles with team

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Bradley Central wrestling coach Steve Logsdon is headed to the Smoky Mountains this week, but the Bears he leaves behind won’t have much time to think about hibernation, days off – other than possibly Christmas Day – video games or girlfriends.

Although the Bears won their own invitational tournament Saturday for the fifth consecutive year, longtime Bradley supporters were laying odds on the team’s holiday workout schedule.

There will be no deviations from the original schedule, though. Logsdon said the room will be open this week but that mandatory practices won’t begin until the Monday after Christmas. Still, those who want to remain in the starting lineup ought to be sure to get in some work this week.

“We’re not where I hope we’ll be in February, but it’s my job as their coach to get them there,” Logsdon said. “A lot of people think I’m too hard on the kids, but I love them all and I want them to get all they’re capable of getting. Their goal is to be state champions.”

The Bears scored 262 points to 177 for runner-up Woodward Academy, 136 for Sonoraville, 134 for Ooltewah and 132.5 for fifth-place Blackman.
