A little more conversation/Religious blogs ideal opportunity for discussion but experts say discerning is a necessity

Blogs are a growing influence on religious conversation today but probably have the most influence within specific faith communities, according to Dan Gainor of the Culture and Media Institute.

“A lot of people’s lives are affected every day by religion,” he said. “You have to turn to the blogs to give you information the mainstream media don’t give you.”

Technorati, an Internet search engine for searching blogs, lists 3,712 religious blogs.

However, Mr. Gainor said “we’re long past the point where (the number of blogs) is easily quantified.”

A recent study of religious blogs by the Social Service Research Council said blogs have moved beyond an emerging trend to a maturing force that is here to stay.
