Chattanooga officials will open bids in August on the construction of a mile-long multiuse path that will stretch along Hamm Road from Moccasin Bend Road and along Manufacturers Road to the Olgiati Bridge area and many of the city’s most-used recreational features.

The path would also take users past the future site of a Moccasin Bend National Archeological District visitor orientation plaza.

Bids submitted to the Chattanooga Division of Transportation through the Tennessee Department of Transportation will be opened at. 2 p.m. Aug. 13, Carmen Harvey, city transportation engineer, said in a phone interview.

“We expect our project for Manufacturers/Hamm Road will go to construction at the end of October,” Harvey said, “and that will include a 10-foot concrete path and a 6-foot grass strip separation from the roadway. There’ll be two travel lanes on Hamm Road and three travel lanes on Manufacturers Road, and it will incorporate street trees to create a very nice, walkable path or biking path.”
