Letters to the Editors

Now we know who caused recession

The headline read: “Fannie and Freddie allies turn on them.” It was a short article in the business section of Saturday’s paper.

The significance of this article is that it reveals the truth about who and what really caused the meltdown of the housing market which in turn, led to the recession.

The first paragraph stated, “A top lawmaker on Capitol Hill is calling for the elimination of mortgage finance companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the establishment of a new system to provide money for U.S. home loans.”

Know who said that? None other than Rep. Barney Frank who, along with the radicals in the Democrat Black Caucus and ACORN alliance, was one of the staunchest supporters of Fannie and Freddie.

The motive behind the plan to abolish Fannie and Freddie is the hope that by doing so, taxpayers and voters will soon forget that Democrats Barney Frank and his allies were directly responsible for creating the economic mess they handed Obama as soon as he took office. Remember what Pogo said: “We have met the enemy and he is us.” Are you listening, Mr. President?

Massachusetts saves the day

We should all be extremely proud of the citizen voters of the great state of Massachusetts. In our country’s early years, they were the leaders of the revolution that freed us from England’s oppressive rule. They helped write our Constitution and then used it to get this wonderful country started.

Now it seems their voters have done it again. They are picking us up and putting us back on our feet again. Thank you. Massachusetts!

Let’s all have a tea party!

Obese workers next on the list

The employees of Memorial Hospital are responsible for letting the administration throw the employees that use tobacco products, not just smokers, under the bus, by not standing up and voicing their opinion.

Well, guess who is next? The employees that are overweight or obese.

If you read the Chattanooga Times Free Press, you surely could not have missed the numerous articles regarding the health problems caused by being overweight.

These are exactly the same tactics that were used to target smokers, if you will remember.

My advice to those employees who are overweight or obese is reduce your weight and get in good physical shape, because those blood tests show more than who has nicotine in their blood.

Lookout Valley needs robbery info

I would like to know why the citizens of Lookout Valley haven’t been informed of the robberies that have taken place in the past week.

Also, the alarm at the high school went off last week, waking me up, and four fire trucks came and the police. Was LVHS another school broken into by vandals?

Sometimes I believe we need our own news reporters and paper.

Taxes can cause property forfeiture

The easiest way for the city to take someone’s property is to raise their property tax so high they can’t possibly pay it.

I wonder if low-income property owners will get the same credits and exemptions as those who are able to fight the high stormwater fees.

Raising debt limit another burden

Re: “Federal debt limit a joke” (editorial, Jan. 26).

It is not a joke. Jokes are funny, they make you laugh. I am not now hearing laughter from any segment of our society.

Most of us live within a budget (at different levels, of course). It seems that Congress constrained like we, “The People…”. Congress does not accept the responsibility of restraint that the rest of us live with. Congress just passes that down. We as of now have obligated each person to indebtedness for, at least, three generations. That is, the slavery of paying debts, to our children and grandchildren.

Raising the limit on our nation’s debt limit is not the answer. It is only a form of indebtedness to buy us time now while creating a burden for our progeny. We should strive to be responsible for our mistakes, not burden our future generations.

Each member of our Congress should think long and hard as he or she makes the decisions that do affect these future taxpayers. Decisions that may affect whether we — our form of government — can survive.

Think on these things!

Praise for Obama has weakened

It is laudable to see that the editorials and letters have virtually ceased to praise Obama. Like millions of others, they seem to be wising up to his incompetence, deceitfulness, secrecy, arrogance, conceit, broken promises, bribes and lust for power. Further evidence of his repudiation emerged last week in the special election to fill the Senate vacancy of Ted Kennedy in Massachusetts.

People have become so angry and outraged because ObamaCare was trying to be rammed down our throats, the soaring of the national debt and the will of the people was being ignored.
