Two artists who use earth-element influences to create timeless works will be featured during the month of July at River Gallery, 400 E. Second St.

Amanda Brazier collects soil in and around Chattanooga to create handmade paints, which she applies in layers reminiscent of primitive dwellings or patterns influenced by quilts and woven cloth.

Ursula Vann uses clay and a smoke-fired process to create her vessels. Fired in a 3-foot-square box using sawdust and everything from Spanish moss to dried banana peels, each vessel is a beautiful surprise.

The featured artists will be present for an opening reception on Friday, July 7, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the gallery.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
