Margee Thomas
Homemaker, Chattanooga
One wrist injury pushed Margee Thomas away from tennis and toward golf.
A more recent wrist injury kept her off the course for three months until Tuesday, when she rode around Moccasin Bend with her husband, Rick, and his friend Chuck Martin.
“Every now and then I can beat them on a hole,” said Thomas, who’s been playing less than six years. “I played pretty good today considering I haven’t played in so long.”
Once her injury heals, Thomas said she’d like to play at Moccasin Bend or Black Creek three or four times a week.
“It was nice getting out again, but it still hurts,” she said. “Just getting back out and hitting balls was great.”
It didn’t take many swings with a golf club for Thomas to fall in love with golf, especially when she factored in playing tennis on hardcourt surfaces.
“Once you hit that first long ball, you get hooked,” she said. “I kept playing and found that golf doesn’t hurt the body nearly as much as tennis.
“The feel of it, it’s effortless when you smack that ball. You can go play that first hole well, mess up the rest and come to 18, play it well and you’ll come back and play them all again.”
