Barbecue, beer and music are a Labor Day weekend tradition – and Chattanooga Market will have it all when the ninth annual Beast Feast BBQ Contest is held Sunday, Sept. 2.

Seven grill masters will put their chicken, pork or beef on the line at this throwdown in First Tennessee Pavilion, 1826 Carter St., during market hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spicy or mild, rubbed or slathered, there will be a cooking style for everyone’s taste. Each pit master will offer barbecue bites for $1 or marketgoers can purchase a full plate of their favorite for an additional charge. People’s Choice and Judge’s Favorite awards will presented.

The barbecue cook-off is organized by Steve Ray of Steve Ray’s Midnite Oil in Ooltewah. It is a sanctioned event for the World Food Championships, which means the winner will receive a golden ticket to compete in the 2018 World Food Championships.
