A Hamilton County prison guard was arrested for smuggling drugs into work, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Lucas Lorenzo Collins, 25, of 6114 Welworth Ave. in East Ridge, Tenn., was charged with two counts of smuggling contraband into a penal institution, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Collins was employed by Correctional Corporation of America as a guard, and was stopped by detectives when he arrived at work. The detectives found him in possession of “contraband.”

Collins was transported to the Hamilton County Jail, and additional contraband was found in his clothing after a further search. He was booked and released on a $31,000 bond.

The arrest was the result of a two-month investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Narcotics and Special Operations Division in conjunction with the Alcohol Beverage Commission and the Drug Enforcement Agency.
