Living on Purpose: Embracing hope for the new year
I hope that everyone had an enjoyable holiday, but I must admit that it did not seem like a normal Christmas.

I hope that everyone had an enjoyable holiday, but I must admit that it did not seem like a normal Christmas.

We've made it through another Christmas, and many of us were stressed trying to figure out what to give people who already have everything they need.

This is the time of year when we display our Nativity sets, and it's common to see depictions on the front of Christmas cards that have Mary and Joseph in a stable with the Baby Jesus lying in a feeding trough, commonly referred to as a manger.

The attitude of our fallen human nature is not very nice - in fact, the word depraved is commonly used. Christians are required to honor God with self-discipline of their mind and to demonstrate his character, but sadly it's rare to find any difference between God's people and those who do not know him at all.

I've often heard people say that we should not discuss religion or politics, and I agree we are less likely to argue if we avoid these danger zones and just talk about the weather.

Late one stormy London night in 1763, a man filled with despair was determined to end his life. He hired a driver to take him to the river and was convinced that if he could only cast himself into the depths of the Thames, his agony could be finally put to an end.

The early church began as a small group of Christians who believed in God and the Bible and considered their faith as their highest priority.

People talk about faith all the time, and this a good thing. However, along with our confidence, there must also be a collection of other godly character traits operating within us in order to have a balanced and sincere relationship with him. Faith is not just a magical wand that is used when we want something, but rather is an agreement with God's will, which is a critical part of being his child.

Do you believe that God intervenes in the affairs of mankind, or do you consider the philosophy where he stands back and calmly watches everything happen?

This year has passed by quickly, and now the election is just a few days away.
