High school game capsules for Aug. 24
Storyline: There was a new feeling at Signal on Monday because the Eagles began preparations for their second game as an 0-1 team. Last week's loss to East Hamilton was the program's first season-opening setback in the school's four-year history. Last year was the team's first game with the Rams and Signal won 34-13. One of the major questions around town this week is whether Signal, a team with an abundance of young talent, will rebound tonight, because Tyner was picked by District 6-AA coaches as a team expected to reach the postseason.

High school football game capsules
Storyline: It's a Goliath (Bradley's Bears) vs. David, but when they played at Benton two years ago Polk's Wildcats pulled off a 34-12 upset. The names have changed but Bears coach Damon Floyd says it looks to be a typical Polk team: "It'll be a slobber-knocker. They hit you and keep hitting you. They're disciplined." Bradley will rely on quarterback Bryce Copeland, who's entering his fourth year as a starter, and Tennessee-bound tackle Austin Sanders. Polk will counter with running back/linebackers Zach Miller and Justin Green and tight end/linebacker Aaron Caldwell.

Sequatchie County’s Katelynne Cheatham sparks title win
DUNLAP, Tenn. - On a softball team loaded with heavy hitters, it would be easy to overlook Katelynne Cheatham. Only a sophomore, Cheatham is surrounded by Sequatchie County's talented upperclassman teammates but proved again Monday why she is every bit as lethal at the plate.

Lady Indians top Bledsoe to win District 7-AA regular-season title
DUNLAP, Tenn. - With the way Brooklyn Girdley was pitching, and how strong the defense was behind her, the win for Sequatchie County's softball team was pretty well secured after the first inning. The insurance runs that came late provided enough to claim the tiebreaker over rival Bledsoe County and give the Lady Indians the regular-season District 7-AA title and the top seed for next week's district tournament.
