Chattanooga: Shooting leaves one dead

Chattanooga police major crimes detectives are investigating a shooting that killed a woman occurred Sunday morning around 2:30 a.m.

Police responded to Erlanger hospital after receiving an “unknown trouble” call from the emergency room, according to police spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Royval. When officers arrived they located a maroon Ford Taurus with Jeryl Y. Hudson, 55, slumped over in the front seat, Officer Royval said. She was pronounced dead by an emergency room doctor while still in the vehicle, Officer Royval said.

There were several witnesses who were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting who stated that they had just left My Uncle’s Place bar and had headed downtown on East 11th Street and stopped at Houston Street when a white vehicle pulled up to the driver’s side of the Taurus, Officer Royval said. The front seat passenger rolled the window down and fired multiple times into the Taurus, witnesses told police. One bullet struck the victim in the forehead and the driver of the Taurus immediately drove to Erlanger, witnesses told police.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made, Officer Royval said.
