Polk County: Man charged with second-degree murder in overdoses

A Polk County man has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder after two woman overdosed and died in his home.

Authorities found Tabitha Peak, 31, and Becky Beavers, 44, at Terry Hawkins’ home Saturday afternoon, said Polk County Sheriff’s office Detective Kevin Cole.

After preliminary autopsy results came back today, showing the woman had both overdosed on prescription drugs, Mr. Hawkins was charged, Detective Cole said.

A state statute says anyone who distributes or allows someone access to Schedule I or Schedule II narcotics may be charged in connection with the death of someone who died as a result, he said.

Mr. Hawkins is currently in the Polk County Jail awaiting his arraignment.
