Free car checkups a chance to ‘pay it forward’

In celebration of National Car Care Month, Southern Adventist University’s Technology Department will offer free car checkups to the community from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in front of the Samaritan Center, 9231 Lee Highway.

“Although no repairs will be made, learning about these problems up front can save thousands of dollars of damage down the line,” organizers said in a news release. “Explanations and recommendations for fixing the problems will be offered.”

In exchange for the free service, the technicians are asking for cash donations to the Samaritan Center. The nonprofit social-services agency provides emergency assistance with food, rent, prescriptions and utilities for residents of eastern Hamilton County. The center also holds health events and operates a Thift Shop, Clearance Shop and Toy Connection (used toy shop) as ministries to the community.
