ATHENS, Ga. – Police in Athens say they have arrested the owners of the two convenience stores that were raided last month during an investigation of illegal gambling.
Jail records show that 34-year-old Anubincy Joseph, 36-year-old Emmanuel Joseph, 45-year-old Tomy Kurian and 45-year-old and Sheelamma Kurian were arrested Monday on charges of keeping a gambling establishment and were released from the Clarke County Jail on $2,500 bonds apiece.
The arrests come almost a month after police raided the Kwik Way and the Norwood Food Mart and seized 18 video poker machines and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Employees at the stores were suspected of giving customers cash payouts as prizes from video gambling machines.
