Man missing in Pocket Wilderness Area

Emergency workers are searching for a man who hasn’t been seen since entering Chickamauga Creek Sunday afternoon.

Amy Maxwell, Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman, said the 29-year-old man and a friend went inner-tubing on the creek and he was last seen at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Searchers have resumed their efforts this morning in the Pocket Wilderness area off of Montlake Road.

The man’s name is Mikah Grant. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. He was last seen wearing black shorts and shoes, but no shirt.

“The creek is very high, anywhere from ankle deep to 7 to 8 feet,” Ms. Maxwell said.

She added that the weekend rain has swollen the creek and it’s flowing faster than normal.

There are four units now searching the woods on foot and two people searching in the creek, one in a kayak and one in a canoe, she said.

Agencies involved in the search include Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue, Volunteer State Rescue, Hamilton County Emergency Services and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.
