Chuck Fleischmann, a newcomer to elective politics, emerged as the narrow winner in a field of 11 candidates running in the Republican primary this week to represent Tennessee’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Mr. Fleischmann narrowly defeated second-place finisher Robin Smith. He aspires to succeed outstanding Rep. Zach Wamp, who chose to run for governor this year.
Opposing conservative Mr. Fleischmann in the November general election will be liberal Democrat nominee John Wolfe, who easily outdistanced three other candidates in Thursday’s Democrat primary.
Mr. Fleischmann is a man of fine character and ability, who should be elected overwhelmingly by Tennessee’s 3rd District voters in November. We may have confidence that he can be a vigorous representative with a soundly conservative voting record in Congress.
